NUTRITION AND WELL-BEING DURING BREASTFEEDINGNow, health is a matter for two. Mom and baby.
It's often forgotten: breastfeeding is more demanding than pregnancy. While you're recovering from childbirth and sleeping in snatches, your body faces a high metabolic demand.
THE FACT
The newborn's immune system is functional but immature. During the first few months of life, the baby relies heavily on maternal antibodies transferred during pregnancy (IgG) and immunoglobulins present in breast milk (especially IgA), which protect its respiratory and intestinal mucosa. Adequate maternal nutritional status, including optimal levels of vitamin A, contributes to the development and protection of the early immune system.
