How to Control Acne in Summer with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Reading time::

They say every skin is a world of its own, but there are times when, no matter how much we care for it and try to keep it in check, it becomes more vulnerable. And summer is one of those times.

Temperature fluctuations, the use of sunscreens, chlorine, sweat, or even humidity are factors that can be attributed to worsening acne due to an increase in sebum production.

All of these factors can stimulate the sebaceous glands; by secreting more oil, pores become clogged, leading to the appearance of bacteria and blemishes. This is even more likely if we also suffer from a hormonal imbalance, such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Por cierto, ¿sabías que 1 de cada 10 mujeres tiene SOP?

It is normal for a lack of information on this topic to create fear and insecurity. But we are here to tell you everything you need for know more, fear less, and choose better.

WHAT IS PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition characterized by very high hormone levels (androgens). Symptoms often vary among women who have it, with the following being the most common:

  • Amenorrheic gaps and/or anovulatory cycles

  • Irregular periods

  • Infertility

  • Acne and increased facial hair

  • Increase in the number of small ovarian cysts

  • Hirsutism

  • Higher predisposition to metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes

El PCOS is usually caused by two hormonal imbalances:

  • At the pituitary level (an endocrine gland that produces several hormones, such as FSH and LH) with a decrease in FSH (a follicle-stimulating hormone) by virtue of LH Both are crucial for women's development and reproductive and metabolic function.
  • Impaired metabolism and insulin action, causing the pancreas to overproduce it to overcome the resistance occurring at the muscular level. This results in insulin circulating in large quantities and reaching the ovaries and adrenal glands.

These two alterations lead to a excessive androgen production (a male hormone found in small amounts in women), testosterone, androstenedione, and DHEAs that not only prevent the production of a
ovulation, it also causes signs such as excessive body hair, jawline acne, and androgenetic-type hair loss.

That is why, in an effort to achieve a balance, our supplement FemmeBalance will help reduce the amount of androgens produced at the adrenal level and, additionally, can help prevent excess androgens from "activating" the most potent androgen: dihydrotestosterone in the hair follicle, potentially improving acne, hirsutism, and/or hair loss.

How does FemmeBalance work?

The first ingredient in FemmeBalance is Saw Palmetto extract, responsible for inhibiting the 5-Alpha Reductase enzyme, which is present in the skin and hair follicles of women.

An excess of this enzyme activates other much more potent hormones that increase sebum production, leading to acne and comedones. In this video, Dr. Isabel Viña explains it clearly.
