MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic compound containing sulfur found in small amounts in some vegetables, fruits, and grains. It's used as a supplement primarily to support joint health and reduce pain associated with inflammation.

Debbi and colleagues (2011) conducted a randomized controlled trial in 49 patients with knee osteoarthritis and found that 3 g/day of MSM for 12 weeksreduced pain and improved physical function.

For his part, Kim and his team in 2006 in a controlled pilot study in 50 patients, observedsignificant improvements in pain and quality of lifeafter 12 weeks with 6 g/day of MSM.

Exercise and muscle recovery

Withee et al. in 2017 evaluated half-marathon runners supplemented with 3 g/day of MSM for 21 days. It was observedless muscle pain,less cell damageandlower oxidative stressafter the race.

Also Nakhostin-Roohi and colleagues (2011) in a randomized controlled trial with healthy men, demonstratedreduction of oxidative stress after intense exercisewith 50 mg/kg/day of MSM for 10 days.

Anthonavage and team (2015) conducted a randomized controlled trial in 20 women who received 3 g/day of MSM for 16 weeks. It was reportedImproved skin elasticity, wrinkle reduction, and improved hydration.
